
The Brunei Info-Communication Technology Awards (BICTA) is an annual event organized by Ministry of Communications to stimulate innovation and creativity in ICT industry amongst individual, students and associations including SME's. It was first introduced in 2004.
It aims to be the benchmark for local company to compete amongst each other and to represent Brunei Darussalam in Asia Pacific Info-Communication Technology (ICT) Award (APICTA).
The Brunei ICT Award (BICTA) is a component of Asia Pacific ICT Award (APICTA) whose vision is to widen the influence of ICT Industry in the Asia region. The winners of BICTA will represent Brunei Darussalam in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA). Other participating countries of the APICTA events are Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand & Vietnam.
The objectives of BICTA are:
1. To simulate innovation and creativity in ICT industry amongst individual and organisations particularly to SME's
2. To provide benchmarks for the development of the local ICT products and solutions
3. To nominate local participants in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA)
4. To create business ties and strategic partnership
5. To give motivation and generate interest amongst the younger generations in ICT

Any application software, hardware or its combination that relates to the process of combining text, sound, pictures, and videos, to create a diversion that holds the attention (entertainment), in the form of Multimedia, Infotainment, Immersive and interactive e.g. the technology innovation to develop advance human characterization in the animation film. Including in this category is the application afore mentioned through internet medium and mobile devices delivery. Any application software, hardware or its combination that provides management and technical support to the news and entertainment industry such as Television Broadcasting, Radio Broadcasting, Cinema, Live Entertainment, Publishing, Newspaper, Internet News.
This award is presented the "Best of the Best" product for all the categories. The Royal Patron Award winner will be the best amongst the first place winners in all categories.

22nd February 2011 – The 1st workshop for the BICTA 2011 was officially launched yesterday, this workshop was coordinated by Infocomm Federation Brunei (IFB) and Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and was held in iCENTRE auditorium. The Guest of Honour for the workshop was Hj Yahkup bin Hj Menudin, Chief Executive of AITI.
BICTA is an annual ICT competition which aims to stimulate innovation and creativity among individuals, education institutions, government agencies, SMEs and players in the ICT industry.
The winners of BICTA 2011 will represent Brunei Darussalam in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) which will be held in Thailand. APICTA provides an opportunity for participants to establish good business networking and find strategic partnerships for their innovation and creative ideas.
The Ideas Creation Workshop is the first of a series of three workshops organized for BICTA 2011. This workshop is intended to assist interested participants to improve and harness their initial ideas and concepts. The subsequent two workshops will enhance their product design and assist them to develop their ideas into final products for competition. It is hoped that these workshops will help interested participants to make their products more marketable and enable them to meet global standards.
A welcoming remark was given by Pg Sarimah Pg Hj Abd Latiff of IFB which was followed by an opening speech from Hj Yahkub CE of AITI, which officiated the workshop. In his speech, the GOH mentioned that apart from the monetary prizes that will be awarded to the potential BICTA winners , which ranges from $5,000 to $10,000, there is also an on-going incentive to encourage more participation with the provision of AITI Grant to successful winners. This grant is given to provide continuity and further improve the participants' products to be more commercial, marketable with its IP being protected.
The successful participant who wins the 1st place award at APICTA will be given a $50,000 AITI Grant while Merit award winner will also receive $25,000 AITI Grant.

APICTA is a collaborative network which is not only focusing on knowledge sharing and innovative benchmarking, but also on business facilitation between business communities from the member countries.
APICTA was established to provide a platform for innovativeness and benchmarking for new products from the region. Furthermore, the purpose of APICTA is also to stimulate the economy and trade relations, to encourage technology transfer and business opportunities, to give exposure to investors and to heighten the awareness of the society on regional cooperation.
BICTA is also a component of APICTA. Brunei Darussalam is one of the participating countries for the APICTA event which is held annually in a selected participant's country.
The other countries participating for the APICTA event are Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand & Vietnam.
The Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) is collaborative network which is not only focusing on knowledge sharing and innovative benchmarking, but also on business facilitation between business communities from the member countries. This award is held annually at the participating countries.
By providing networking and product benchmarking opportunities to ICT innovators and enterprenuers in the region, the program is designed to stimulate ICT innovation and creativity, promote economic and trade relations, facilitate technology transfer, and offer business matching opportunities via exposure to venture capitalists and investors.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Haji Awang Alaihuddin Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohamad Taha, who is also the Chairman of the steering committee of Brunei ICT Award (BICTA) congratulated MARS Enterprise for winning a prestigious award which is Brunei's first in Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2009 held in Melbourne, Australia from 14-18 December 2009 during a brief courtesy call at the Ministry of Communication. Permanent Secretary further expressed his hope that more local participants will take part in the future competitions. He also wished to encourage more made in Brunei Darussalam's products will be developed in the local ICT industry. |
