BRUNEI DARUSSALAM REPRESENTATION AT THE ASIA PACIFIC ICT AWARDS (APICTA) 2006

Tuesday, 7th Novmeber 2006 - The Brunei Darussalam delegation to Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) 2006 competition held in Macau S.A.R, China from 2nd – 5th November 2006 arrived back to Brunei Darussalam today.

The APICTA 2006 competition had earlier concluded with the awards presentation to the winners, merit achievers and ‘recognitions’ during the APICTA 2006 Gala Night on Sunday, 5th November 2006. Brunei Darussalam was among the 14 Asia Pacific countries that competed in the 4 (four) day event.

Brunei Darussalam competing in 5 categories came out with a ‘Recognition Award’ in the Start-Up Company Category. Westegrets Technology & Services Sdn. Bhd of Brunei Darussalam won the ‘Recognition Award’ with its project “Mobile Payment System, Point Payment System, Community SMS”. In the Brunei ICT Award (BICTA) 2006 held in September this year, Westegrets Technology & Services Sdn. Bhd was the winner of the Start-up Company category and also won the newly introduced Patron Award as the best of the best among the winners.

A total of 178 nominations were judged during APICTA 2006 where the quality level of the products had generally improved and the competition amongst the entries was much stiffer than the previous years.

The Nominee Experience Sharing sessions that include business networking and discussions were also held in conjunction with the APICTA 2006 competition. Participants had the opportunity to have ‘business matching’ and experience sharing sessions amongst their regional counterparts during the four day event.  

The APICTA Executive Meeting was also held during the event and amongst others, the committee members agreed on action plan for the future strategic direction of APICTA as a stronger alliance organising more activities to enhance ICT industry development collaboration in the region. 

The Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) is an international Awards Program aimed to increase ICT awareness in the community and assist in bridging the Digital Divide in the region. Participants of the Awards Program are members of the APICTA Network comprising of 14 member-economies including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong China,  India, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. The next APICTA for the year 2007 will be held in Singapore in the fourth quarter of the year, tentatively in November 2007.
